Beaver Homes Grange

Unexpected Event Page

We’ve been humbled!  We are also stuffed, warm and happy.  What a surprise the evening was.

At 5:30 we arrived to find the Great Hall set up with tables and hot coffee as a waiting area.  Dinner would be served at 6 PM.  We came in our finery and preened as we played Cribbage, Pinochle or just plain talked.  The center pieces on each card table made us a wee bit nervous as they were made up of cans of Vienna Sausage, Spam, American Cheese and crackers.  (Must have been Mac’s idea)  But we laughed, talked and played as the time sped by.  At exactly 6 PM Mac ushered us to the Dining Room where tables were spread with purple table covers, potted plants galore and candle light.  Two silent auction items along the wall were visited several times that night (these will be offered at the Corned Beef Dinner) and numbers from chairs matched the numbers on the potted plants.  We also each received a raffle ticket for a nice handmade planter by Mel, stuffed full of Poppies and Primroses.  Sara Griffith had the winning number for that gift.  Then with an introduction and thank you from the Master, Mel Brady, dinner was served.

 Herb crusted pork loin….succulent!

Marinated chicken breasts deliciously moist.

Roasted red potatoes diced with carrots sprinkled lightly with Rosemary and pepper…mouth watering

Peas…sweet, warm and crisp

Hot rolls and butter

Salad with croutons and choice of dressing

And the finale…oh my goodness….desserts that were so numerous that even though I tried I could not taste them all.  Each was perfection.

As the men did the dishes, we women organized into a friendly game of Mexican Train.  The night was such a success that Margaret fired all the ladies and said from now on the men cook!  That offer or demand was politely declined, at least for a year.  We are hoping the men will do this again as they have proven that they are fine cooks and cook’s help.  There is so much talent here.  Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.  Give these guys a hug.
